We've started our introductory unit on having a Social Justice "Lens" or perspective. Your booklet of questions including your Privileges and Disadvantages Inventory, as well as questions on Oppression and Power are due this Friday, February 4.
Friday, February 4: Here's your homework assignment for this weekend:
In Google Classroom:
1. Open the list of student generated gender roles and expectations, and compare that list
from the lists we brainstormed together in class (I've attached pictures of
them)
2. In the Sexism, Gender, and Sexuality Learning Guide, answer the question for Lesson 2.1 Gender Roles (I've slightly changed the wording of the question since you saved your copy of the file. It should read:
"Some of the gender roles and expectations on the list made by students have been around for hundreds of years; some have shown up more recently. What thoughts and feelings came up for you as you thought about your own list, and then read the list made up by other students?"
3. Read the notes on "Male Violence: biological or taught"
4. Read the notes on "The Man Box" and watch the YouTube video ("A Call To Men" - Tony Porter) *Trigger warning: the video includes references to a sexual assault
5. Answer question #2 in the learning guide about stopping gender violence
6. Fill out the chart for question #3 in the Learning Guide
If you have any questions, you can email me at: symanskiken@gmail.com

Friday, February 18, 2022:
We're finishing up our unit on Sexuality with a unit project and a research assignment. The unit project requires students to interview a male and female from their parents' generation or older, as well as a child who can be male or female, but should be at least 5 years younger than them. The topic is gender roles and stereotypes that you were taught to believe, and comparing the answers from different generations. The due date for this assignment is Friday, March 4.
Students have also been working on a current event story dealing with a Yukon high school's response to sexual orientation and homosexuality in their school policy. This assignment will also be due on Friday, March 4. Students will have class time to work on this on Monday morning, February 21.
Details for both assignments can be found on the Google Classroom website.

The sexual orientation policy in Yukon assignment is due today, before you go on Spring Break.
I have extended the deadline of your unit project on Gender Roles and Expectations until Monday, March 21, when you return from Spring Break. You should have completed your interviews at this point and you can put the finishing touches on how you want to present your findings over the break. We will share our findings in class when we return from Break.
