Urban Studies 12 on the surface is the study of social issues and effects that relate to living in a larger centre, whether that is a smaller proportation like Whitehorse to the outlying areas, or to larger centres, such as New York, London and Paris. This has a component of study this year that looks at why these larger centres play such a strong role in TV, Film and Theatre.
Welcome to Urban Studies 12
Project 1: Origin of a City
In this assignment, students are picking a city, and first they come up with a set of points in the history of a city that are important to know about, that can act as a timeline. Next, there are three related questions for them to answer about the city.
Project 2: In the Wings: a Short Story
In a city, find a storied theatre, with loads of history. Using details you have collected about the city, as well as this theatre, write a short story that can be any genre that uses this specific set of details.
Project 3: G1A: The City and the Theatre
The city is often seen as a main production place in the creation of major theatre, film and TV, but they often feature as a main plot point of the piece, as well. We are finding examples and explaining why that might be.
Project 4: B1A: Case Study of Gander, NFLD
Gander is one of the eastern-most points in North America and features an international airport that serves customers, politicians and more in their efforts to travel to all points east. How has being this type of airport that serves a key point of the air travel infrastructure demand that this Newfoundland city change to match?
